Freshman orientation

You are starting your bachelor studies at TechFak this October?

Then we have summarized the most important things for your starting days:

  • Don’t stress yourself! The university seems overwhelming to everyone at the beginning. But with time you’ll learn how everything works and where to ask if you don’t know.
  • There are no lectures for you on the first day. Nevertheless, you should have a pad with a pen, a laptop or a tablet with you so that you can take notes on the most important information. Also important is the FAU Card, if you have already received it, because you can use it to pay for your lunch in the Mensa/Cafeteria.
  • On Monday, 10/13/2025 you should be sitting in H7, H8 or H9 at 08:15 a.m. The central introductory meeting of the Faculty of Engineering will take place there. You can find the lecture halls by standing on “Roter Platz” and then taking the entrance next to the library. In case of emergency just ask other students. They don’t bite 😀
  • After that the course specific introductions take place. During these introductions, you will be told which subjects you will take in the first semester, how to set up your schedule, etc. You don’t have to explain that to yourself in advance.

  • If you don’t have an event right now, you can come to “Roter Platz” and participate in our campus rally. We will explain to you exactly how it works. At this rally you can get to know other first-year students, the student councils and some university groups.
  • Starting at 6 p.m. in the Heinrich-Lades-Halle there will be a university-wide introductory meeting.
  • At 10pm, the first celebration of the semester will start at Erlanger E-Werk: Techfak Goes Downtown. The party takes place every semester on the first evening and is organized by students for students. This is also a good opportunity to get to know new people (better).
  • From Tuesday on, your lectures will take place according to the timetable. Exercises and tutorials usually start in the second or third week after the start of the semester, unless the professor has told you otherwise in an introduction or mail. Here you need something to take notes, but you don’t have to prepare anything. The access to the Studon course and the lecture material is usually announced there.
  • On Wednesday (10/15/2025) from 10 a.m. to 03 p.m. the university group presentation takes place at the “Roter Platz”. There you can approach groups and get information. Maybe you want to join one of them 🙂
  • Here you can find an overview of events especially for first-year students from the university groups and FSIs: https://fsv.tf.fau.de/veranstaltungen-fuer-erstis/
  • That was the most important information for now! Good luck and have fun with your studies. If you have further questions, you can always contact us or your FSI!
